Before we get to the juicy stuff let me just tell you how “cool” it is outside! The lows are in the upper 60’s and the highs are in the mid to upper 70″s. It’s honestly starting to feel like fall here in South Texas! Well, until later this week when the highs go back into the 90’s. We will take what we can get.
Now on to the confession part of this blog post. Do you know what is in the picture at the top of this post? It’s called a jelly roll and for people like me who love the look and feel of fabric, especially coordinating fabrics, jelly rolls are like having a huge bowl of ice cream on a hot summer day. It just makes you happy. They are 2 1/2 inch strips (either 20 or 40 depending on the size of the roll) of coordinating fabrics, all from the same designer and the same line of fabric.
It takes a good amount of time to pick the fabric you want to use in a quilt. I have spent more than 2 hours picking out fabric for a specific quilt. Sometimes I get all the way to the cutting table at the fabric store with shopping cart full of fabric I need cut to different lengths and as I am waiting in line I change my mind on some of the fabric. So jelly rolls are very useful because all of the fabrics in one roll coordinate beautifully together. Plus the fabric is already cut into 2 1/2 inch strips which saves a TON of time by not having to cut the fabric into strips.
To be COMPLETELY honest and transparent I do have a few more jelly rolls than I probably should,,,,,okay I have like a dozen (they are SO PRETTY!!!). So I have set a goal for myself to actually use up half of those jelly rolls before the end of the year WITHOUT replacing them with new ones. I will keep you posted on my progress. Truth be told I am an offical jelly roll junkie.
Until next time,
